Vermont Rx Card Will Provide Free Prescription Drug Cards To All Residents

Vermont residents now have access to a free prescription assistance program. The statewide program, called Vermont Rx Card, is scheduled to officially commence today. Vermont Rx Card is being launched to help the uninsured and underinsured residents of Vermont gain access to significant savings on prescription medications at local pharmacies.

The Vermont Medical Society (VMS) is working to generate support for the program by encouraging their physician members to offer the program to their patients. VMS works closely with Vermont Rx Card to educate all clinics, hospitals, county health departments and urgent care clinics throughout the State about the program. Additionally, VMS is working directly with physicians and hospitals across Vermont to distribute hard cards to anyone in need.

Executive Vice President of VMS, Paul Harrington, says, "Many of our residents are without necessary medications simply because they cannot afford them. VMS has partnered with the Vermont Rx Card as a way to help our residents with their prescription expenses."

Vermont Rx Card will provide discounts on both brand and generic medications with an average savings of around 30%. The program is open to all residents and there are no restrictions or applications to fill out. The card is accepted at over 56,000 regional and national pharmacies. People with prescription coverage can use this program for medications not covered by their health plan. Additionally, the program can also be used by those who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits, which is common in many health savings accounts (HSA) and high deductible health plans.

Vermont residents can download a free card, search drug pricing and locate participating pharmacies by visiting www.vermontrxcard.com. For additional updates and information, Vermont Rx Card can be found on Facebook and Twitter.
